In one of my favorite personal growth lists to review (25 Things You Do Because You Have Self-Respect), one of the points in particular is resonating with me today - that is UNDERSTANDING THAT WE ALL HAVE OUR LIMITATIONS and without blaming others for our emotions or circumstances, WE CAN DEPEND ON OURSELVES.
Asking for help and not getting it does not mean you were bad for asking nor is the other party wrong for being unable to deliver. We are all experiencing a unique human experience, and may not be able to accommodate other's wishes for our time, experience, or knowledge at the time of the request. Comprehension and COMPASSION can steer you away from negative and fruitless blame and guide you to a solution.
This concept of self-reliance is rooted in the ability to take ownership of our own emotions. If others are to blame for our bad mood, or our rotten luck, then that means WE alone are not responsible (delusional, right?). But if we take ownership of our mood and circumstances, we can remove the clutter of different perceptions and spiteful consequences and figure it out. In doing so, we EMPOWER ourselves, and our vision and mission in life can take another step towards actualization. That is so much better than whining about so and so for not being able to (fill in the blank), bemoaning our life, and being miserable with unaccomplished goals that we can't muster up the ability to get to because of such and such and whatever.
Taking ownership of ourselves and being self-reliant is step one of manifesting our individual vision and missions, which we all deserve. Comment how this approach to yourself and others has made a difference in your life!
