I've recently had the pleasure to read two of Martha Stewart's books: "Organizing" and "Martha's Rules". These two books really delve into the nuts and bolts of effectively running a household and starting and maintaining businesses. Every page provided useful information of practical application and psychology needed to achieve your goals. Of course, Martha makes everything look beautiful and easier with her helpful "Good Things". Perhaps most enjoyable though, is Martha's triumph over many challenges (life!) and how her persistence and strict adherence to her values has carried her beyond many glass ceilings and multitudes of naysayers.
I have challenged myself to accomplishing Martha Stewart's monthly task calendars (most of them - where applicable to my household) for 2022. The first quarter of the year is almost over and I have already accomplished more this year (in household maintenance) than all of last year. Maybe. There have been some things I've never done before in my life (sweep the attic)! It's exciting as far as home chores go, sort of like an Ironman vs. a stroll around the block, but hey! I love a challenge! And it truly gets easier the more I do the weekly whole house clean and my confidence in my ability increases. Win-Win!
As I embark into working from home (and making money from it), it is shifting my headspace around the work-life balance, the culture we are immersed in (by choice or not), and the consequences our choices have on the future. I'm no longer worrying about the timeclock, office politics, and having enough money to blow on Friday night. Now, I focus on my goals and linking my values to the action steps required to achieve my goals. Having a clean house, a beautiful garden, delicious home-cooked meals, and sharing that with family and friends is just icing on the cake. Thank you, Martha Stewart.
